A 19-year-old inmate doing time for housebreaking and theft at the Walvis Bay correctional facility took his life in a holding cell while other prisoners were reportedly fast asleep.
According to the Namibian Police, the incident happened early this morning at about 00:40.
The lifeless body of the young male inmate was discovered hanging on a metal object in the cell.

No suicide note was found and the next of kin have not yet been informed.
In another case of suicide, the lifeless body of a 25-year-old man was discovered on Friday at about 11:00 at the Benguela Enterprises where he worked as a cleaner.
The deceased was last seen on Thursday, 21 January.
A suicide note was found and the next of kin has not yet informed as they are not known.
Police investigations continue.
