AN Independent Candidate for the Okatana constituency, Joakim Kanisius, had to be removed from the polling station at the Ondjonjo village after it emerged that he was trying to assist an elderly woman vote while his name is on the ballot.
Presiding officer, Leni Erastus, said that the candidate was identified by the community members who in turn alerted election officials at the polling station.
According to Erastus, the candidate wanted to represent the pensioner knowing full well that he is contesting, which is against the rules.
“The community members identified him after he went inside and we immediately removed him,” he said.
