THE traditional homestead of well-known businessman Frans Aupa Indongo was gutted by fire Monday afternoon, a day after of one his sons, Dr. Inkono Indongo, hosted his wedding banquet there.
The homestead is located behind Indongo’s Continental Number One shopping complex at Oshakati.
It is alleged that the fire started in a nearby oshana, but strong wind caused it to burn rapidly, catching the homestead dwellers by surprise at around 13:00.
Irreparable damage was already done by the time the firefighters arrived at the scene.
Indongo’s spokesperson, Maria Schmidt, said that details on the extent of the damage were not yet available, but noted that nothing was salvaged besides a few personal belongings.
“Many structures were completely destroyed. We are still trying to make sense of what happened,” she said.
Inspector Thomas Aiyambo also confirmed the incident and said that no one was injured and the value of the damage is not yet known.
