FARMERS and resident of towns in the central Namibia north and north west of Windhoek rejoiced as several good rain showers fell in their area.
Dry river beds that has not had water for years, were inundated with storm water at places between Omaruru and Otjiwarongo. Large pools of rain water were also reported next to the B1 Road in the area of the Otjiva Game lodge and further south towards Okahandja after strong showers fell in the area on Friday.
One farmer reported that as much as 20 millimetres of rain fell on Farm Erichsfelde between between Okahandja and Otjiwarongo.
Because of the drought and an almost complete lack of vegetation streams of storm water form quickly and run off to lower laying areas which erodes topsoil very fast.
Sporadic rain showers were still reported further north by residents of the larger towns of the far north where the lower laying oshanas have started to fill up with rain water. However to the west in the direction of Okahao farmers are still hoping that the rain will come their way.
