THE Windhoek City Police at the start of the weekend arrested six bus drivers on a number of irregularities, ranging from a lack of registration certificates and transportation permits amongst others.
City Police Spokesperson Fabian Amukwelele said in an interview with Informanté that an operation was carried out on Friday and uncovered some bus drivers who’ve applied for public transportation permits between Windhoek and the North but instead have now started operating within the city.
It was found that the bus drivers were also operating without business address signs. Others were fined for overloading and skipping red traffic lights.
“The operation we had was specifically on public transport fitness. We received complaints from road users about city bus drivers causing obstruction in the streets by stopping to load passengers and skipping red traffic lights. The operation was also aimed at curbing taxis operating with pirated numbers,” Amukwelele said.
The bus drivers have since paid their fines
