“As underdogs, you have nothing to lose”- Geingob

FAREWELL: The Namibia Rugby team received a Presidential send-off today at State House.

Aili Iilonga

PRESIDENT Hage Geingob said that the Namibia rugby team should be fearless going into its sixth world cup appearance, and that the nation expects a solid performance and not necessarily a victory.
He said that winning would be ideal but that should not be the focus.
“Safety in the game is important but also work for a victory. It is not the end of the world if you end up not winning. Go out and play rugby. We will be watching you and show them that as underdogs, you have nothing to lose,” he said.
Geingob made the remarks during the Team’s send-off at the State House today in Windhoek.
He also said that the team should be great ambassadors of the country and behave at all times.
“Even if we lose, but we behave accordingly, they will say Namibia have well behaved people,” said the President.
Namibia will compete at this year’s Rugby World Cup, which will be hosted in Japan.
The team will depart on 12 September and is expected to kick the competition off with a game against Italy slated for 22 September.
Informanté news spoke to Eugene Jantjies on the side about the team’s readiness for the Rugby World Cup.
Jantjies, who will be playing at his fourth world cup and will be making his last world cup appearance, encouraged young boys to work hard and be dedicated to the game.
