THE Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Stanley Simataa, has assured the nation that their voluntary 2% contribution to drought relief will be well-taken care of as a special account, which will be audited, will has been set up.
Speaking at a Cabinet Decisions briefing, Simataa stated that the funds collected will not go into the pockets of politicians, but that it will be instead used to keep the troubled agriculture sector afloat.
“Imagine if all our citizens in rural areas lose their animals, these people will lose their livelihoods and government will have to come in and strengthen its support. We should learn to look at certain initiatives without our usual political and personal prejudices. This issue will place a huge burden on government, which will in turn lead to an increase on taxes,” Simataa stated.
He urged those who wish to contribute voluntarily to speak to their Human Resources department at their respective places of employment in order to contribute towards the specially set up account.
