Staff Reporter

NAMIBIA posted 298/9 from their 50 overs against the United States in their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas on today, with Michael van Lingen scoring 124 and Gerhard Erasmus adding 76.

Namibia made a cautious start after winning the toss and opting to bat first, losing Malan Kruger for three and Jan Frylinck for four to slip to 24/2.

Van Lingen then steadied the innings alongside Louren Steenkamp, with the pair adding 115 runs for the third wicket. Steenkamp made 30 before being dismissed in the 30th over, with Namibia on 139/3.

Van Lingen reached his century from 95 balls before eventually being dismissed for 124 off 121 deliveries, including 11 fours.

Erasmus provided further momentum, scoring 76 from 45 balls with nine fours and three sixes. His aggressive partnership with Van Lingen helped Namibia accelerate through the middle overs.

Namibia lost Erasmus, JJ Smit and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton in quick succession, but late contributions from Zane Green and Ruben Trumpelmann pushed the total towards 300.

Green scored 22 off 17 balls, while Trumpelmann made 18 from 14 deliveries before both were dismissed in the final two overs.

Ehsan Adil was the USA’s most successful bowler with 4/41 from eight overs, while Shehan Jayasuriya took 3/30.

The USA now require 299 runs from their 50 overs to win the match.
