Police investigate road incidents across Namibia

POLICE are investigating road-related incidents reported in Tsandi, Groot-Aub and Omuthiya, including the death of a one-year-old child who was allegedly run over by a vehicle.

In Tsandi, a one-year-old baby died after allegedly being run over by a white Toyota pickup at Ombugu Village on Friday.

According to the Namibian Police weekend crime report, the driver was allegedly driving from a house yard when the vehicle ran over the child, who died at the scene.

The deceased was from the same household, and the next of kin were present at the scene. Police are investigating the incident as reckless or negligent driving and culpable homicide.

In Groot-Aub, a four-year-old boy was allegedly run over and injured on Saturday.

The suspect allegedly drove away from the scene after the incident but is known to the police. The matter is being investigated as reckless or negligent driving and failure to stop and render assistance after an accident.

In Omuthiya, an Angolan woman believed to be between 30 and 36 years old sustained serious injuries after allegedly being struck by a dark blue Volkswagen Polo on the B1 road between Omuthiya and Ondangwa on Friday evening.

The incident occurred approximately two kilometres from Omuthiya towards Omadhiya Village, when the vehicle was allegedly travelling from Omuthiya to Omalindi Village and struck the pedestrian as she crossed the road.

The woman was taken to Omuthiya State Hospital for medical treatment. Police are investigating the matter as reckless or negligent driving.
