Windhoek hit by rain and hail, more expected

Staff Reporter

RAIN and hail swept across Windhoek this afternoon, with forecasts indicating that these conditions are likely to continue.

Parts of the capital city have already been significantly affected by today’s showers, with Auasblick recording 90 millimetres (mm) of rain and Kleine Kuppe 65mm within a few hours. These rainfall totals were recorded while the showers were still ongoing.

According to the Namibia Meteorological Service, the central parts of the country will receive more rainfall on Friday. The public is advised to remain vigilant and refrain from driving through flooded areas.

Rainfall is also expected beyond the central regions, with the Namibia Meteorological Service identifying the northern areas, particularly the central northern and north-western parts, among those expected to experience thundershowers on Friday.

The southern parts of the country are also expected to receive showers on Friday. These anticipated showers will not be limited to the interior, as thundershowers are also expected in the coastal areas.
