THE Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations is undertaking a business re-engineering process at the Master’s Office to identify bottlenecks and improve the turnaround time for finalising deceased estates.
Minister of Justice and Labour Relations Fillemon Wise Immanuel made the announcement in the National Assembly today in response to concerns raised over the growing backlog of estates.
SWAPO Party member Sharonice Davinnia Busch asked the minister about public concerns over the time taken to finalise deceased estates, describing the process as tedious and cumbersome.
Busch also raised concerns about the Master’s Office’s oversight of independent estate agents involved in the finalisation of estates and asked what measures were being taken to address the situation.
Immanuel acknowledged that the ministry was aware of “inordinate delays” in the finalisation of estates at the Master’s Office.
He said that during the ministry’s executive management meeting on 7 September, he requested a comprehensive presentation on process mapping and business re-engineering at the office.
According to Immanuel, the exercise is intended to identify bottlenecks affecting the office’s business processes and efficiency.
“Once we have then identified as to where the bottlenecks are, insofar as the business and the efficiency of the office is concerned, we will be glad actually to come forward and brief this August House in terms of the reforms that we have undertaken,” he said.
Immanuel said the ministry was already addressing the issue and that the business re-engineering process was aimed at improving the turnaround time for the finalisation of estates.
