A SOURCE in Rehoboth close to the rape case, levelled against medical practitioner Dr. Michael Tune, has said that there exist several audio WhatsApp voice note messages in which the alleged rape victim threatened to open a rape case against Dr. Tune if he did not withdraw a criminal case relating to damage to property against her.
The bail application of Dr. Tune is set to continue in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court, provided that there is a magistrate available, after a magistrate who had previously been assigned to the case recused themselves, as they had handled a protection order issued against the alleged rape victim.
It is alleged that Dr. Tune had made a protection order against the alleged rape victim after she broke into his property about three times and damaged vehicles as well as a camera after climbing over a residential wall.
It is alleged that the woman who opened the rape matter had blackmailed Dr. Tune via an intermediary who recorded the telephonic conversations without her knowledge should Dr. Tune keep on ignoring her and proceed with the case against her. This audio recording, according to the source, cannot be used, as it is in contravention of the Communications Act, which prohibits the recording of an individual without their knowledge.
The source stated that Dr. Tune and the alleged rape victim stayed in Block D, and that on 5 September, they went on a shopping spree in Windhoek, and that Dr. Tune had bought her an evening gown in preparation for a gala dinner that would be hosted at the Lions Club, slated for 12 September. This is a day after the alleged rape took place on 4 September.
Dr. Tune had, however, terminated the relationship on 6 September due to her unpleasant conduct towards him. The rape victim allegedly moved out of the house in Block D, however, allegedly took furniture worth N$260 000.00 belonging to Dr. Tune, which led to a theft case being opened against her.
The source claims that despite the break-up, the alleged rape victim had also broken into the Block B residence at least three times by climbing over the wall, and had even damaged a car which belonged to Dr. Tune’s daughter, which resulted in the car running off the road outside Rehoboth, which resulted in a criminal case being opened against her relating to the damage to property.
The source further claimed that on 8 September, the woman had also gone to a doctor, but made no mention of a rape complaint, but merely complained of stomach problems.
Further to this, it is alleged that the rape victim, despite not being invited, had also showed up to the gala dinner on 12 September at the Lions Club, and had made full use of the open bar, and caused a scene after Dr. Tune had left the event.
