THE Haimbodi Hamukoto Growth Centre in Epanya Village, Okatana Constituency, has been electrified at a cost of N$681,365.83, with the government highlighting the new infrastructure as a catalyst for local businesses, entrepreneurship and socio-economic development.
Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Modestus Amutse officially commissioned the electrification infrastructure at the centre, which was funded by the Oshana Regional Council and executed by NORED with assistance from Forever Electrical and Construction.
Amutse said expanding access to reliable electricity remains central to the government’s efforts to promote sustainable energy development and rural development.
He thanked the Oshana Regional Council and NORED for their efforts in extending electricity to communities and contributing to the government’s rural electrification objectives.
“You have been doing excellent in bringing electricity to the people, in fulfilling the objective of the government to extend the rural electrification, ideally to every Namibian,” Amutse said.
He called on the community to protect the infrastructure from cable theft and vandalism, avoid illegal connections, use electricity safely and pay for the electricity they consume.
Amutse said the infrastructure was an investment in the community and urged residents to make proper use of the service.
“Electricity isn’t just about lighting homes, it’s about enabling local businesses and creating opportunities,” he said.
He also warned that electricity can be dangerous if used incorrectly and urged residents to follow safety measures.
The electrification of the growth centre forms part of efforts to expand access to reliable energy and use electricity as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, productive economic activity and Namibia’s broader industrialisation and development agenda.
