34 soccer teams join First Gentleman’s tournament at Okongo

THE 2026 edition of First Gentleman Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah’s Annual Sports Tournament kicked off this morning at the Elia Weyulu Sports Field in Okongo village, Ohangwena Region.

A total of 24 youth soccer teams and 10 Legends teams are competing this year. In the other codes, five netball teams and two volleyball teams have registered so far. Registration for netball and volleyball has been extended to Friday to accommodate more teams.

The four-day tournament will conclude on Sunday, with trophies, medals and thousands of Namibia dollars in prize money to be handed out across all four sporting codes.

The tournament was first launched in 2003 but later ceased operations. According to organisers, they approached Ndaitwah to become patron. The first major edition took place in 2023.

Youth soccer winners will take home N$45,000, a floating trophy and gold medals. Runners-up will get N$33,000 and silver medals, third place N$15,750 and bronze medals, and fourth place N$10,500.

The winning team in the Legends soccer category — for players aged 40 and above — will receive N$25,000 and gold medals. Second place will get N$13,500 and silver medals, third N$9,000 and bronze medals, and fourth N$6,000.

Netball and volleyball winners will receive N$15,000 and gold medals. Runners-up will get N$10,500 and silver medals, third place N$6,750 and bronze medals, and fourth place N$4,500.
