Police report multiple housebreaking cases across Namibia

POLICE are investigating several housebreaking and theft cases reported across Namibia, including an incident in Windhoek in which a woman was allegedly tied up while suspects accessed her banking application and stole items worth more than N$51 000.

According to the weekend crime report, in the Windhoek case, which occurred on Friday, at a house in Eros, it is alleged that male suspects broke into the residence and woke a 44-year-old woman who was sleeping.

The suspects allegedly tied her hands and instructed her to remain quiet. They reportedly took her cellphone, unlocked it and accessed her Nedbank banking application before ransacking the house.

Property valued at N$51 051 was allegedly stolen. No arrests have been made and no property has been recovered. Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, four men aged 24, 29, 30 and 31 were arrested in Okahandja after police allegedly found them in possession of suspected housebreaking implements.

The men were arrested on Saturday, in the Nau-Aib location after the black Honda Fit they were travelling in was stopped and searched.

Police allegedly found a pipe wrench, bolt cutter, crowbar, balaclava, masks and knives in the vehicle. Police investigations continue.

In Ondangwa, suspects allegedly tampered with the padlock of a storage container at Sun Square Mall on Friday.

They allegedly gained entry and stole PVC pipes and boxes of tiles valued at N$13 500. No arrests or recoveries have been made.

In Otjomuise, Windhoek, a housebreaking was reported on Friday. Suspects allegedly used an unknown object to open a garage door and stole items valued at N$14 000.

Police have not made any arrests or recovered the stolen property.

In Oluno, suspects allegedly broke the locks of the entrance door of a cuca shop at Onambango B Village on Friday.

The suspects allegedly gained entry and stole items valued at N$24 788. No arrests have been made and no property has been recovered.

In Katima Mulilo, a housebreaking was reported Friday in the Soweto location.

It is alleged that suspects tampered with the lock of a victim’s room, gained entry and stole property valued at N$16 950.

No arrests have been made and no property has been recovered. Police investigations continue.
