A TRUCK driver has died and another sustained serious injuries following Tuesday afternoon’s collision involving three trucks on the B2 road between Usakos and Arandis, with police confirming further details of the crash.

The accident, which was initially reported on Tuesday after two trucks were seen on fire following a collision, occurred at about 16:30, approximately 34 kilometres from Usakos towards Arandis.

According to the Namibian Police Force, a 42-year-old Namibian man, identified as Moses Shidalwa Nailenge, was driving a truck from Arandis towards Usakos when he allegedly collided with the rear of another truck travelling in the same direction.

The truck, driven by a 62-year-old Namibian man, was subsequently struck from behind.

The 42-year-old driver then allegedly collided head-on with a Freightliner truck travelling in the opposite direction. The Freightliner was driven by a 36-year-old Zimbabwean national.

Nailenge died after his truck caught fire, and his body was burned beyond recognition.

The 62-year-old driver was not injured, although the trailer of his truck was damaged.

The Zimbabwean driver sustained serious injuries and was initially transported to Usakos State Hospital before being transferred to Windhoek State Hospital for further medical treatment. He is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

Police have opened a case of culpable homicide and reckless or negligent driving, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.

The Namibian Police Force extended its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
