ONE person has died and two others were injured after two trucks overturned in separate crashes just minutes apart on Windhoek’s Western Bypass early Monday morning, with one of the accidents involving a cattle truck carrying more than 90 animals.
The fatal crash occurred at around 02:00 near the intersection of Berndt Carlson Street and the dump site area, behind the University of Namibia (UNAM), when a truck transporting cattle overturned after the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
The driver, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, died in the crash. The truck, belonging to R. Koortzen Snr Transport and bearing Keetmanshoop registration plates, was pulling a trailer loaded with cattle.

Several cattle were killed in the crash, while others sustained severe injuries and had to be euthanised at the scene. Some animals reportedly escaped from the trailer and were seen running through nearby streets.
A second truck, carrying fruit juice, overturned in the same area approximately five minutes later. Two people were taken to hospital following the crash, although the extent of their injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The incidents caused traffic disruptions as emergency services attended both scenes.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crashes.
