A 63-YEAR-OLD pedestrian was killed in a road accident near Ondangwa, while a driver was arrested in Aranos after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash that injured two pedestrians.
According to the police weekend crime report, the Ondangwa incident occurred on Saturday at about 21:23 on the B1 Oshikango/Ondangwa Main Road at Ompunda Village in the Okaku Constituency, Oshana Region.
Police reported that Gabriel Natanael, a 63-year-old Namibian man, died after being struck by a Honda Fit hatchback with Ondangwa registration plates.
It is alleged that the 45-year-old driver was travelling from north to south when the vehicle collided with Natanael, who was crossing the road from west to east.
Ambulance personnel declared the pedestrian dead at the scene, and his body was transported to the Oshakati Police Station Mortuary. His next of kin have been informed.
Meanwhile, in Aranos, a 54-year-old man was arrested following a crash in which two pedestrians were injured and the driver allegedly fled the scene.
The incident occurred on Friday at around 21:40 in the Nuwerus location.
According to the police, the suspect was driving a light blue Toyota Cressida on a public road when he allegedly drove recklessly and collided with two pedestrians, a 35-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and establish the extent of the injuries before leaving the scene.
He was later traced and arrested before being taken to Aranos State Hospital, where he allegedly refused to provide a blood specimen after being requested to do so for analysis.
Police investigations into both incidents are continuing.
