THE City of Windhoek has announced an average 4% increase in municipal tariffs for the 2026/2027 financial year, effective from 1 July 2026, saying the adjustments are necessary to support the continued provision and maintenance of essential services and infrastructure.
According to the City’s Tariffs 2026/2027 booklet, the increases will affect several municipal services, including water, refuse and waste management, sewerage, fire brigade services and property assessment rates.
The City said the adjustments would enable it to continue delivering services and maintaining infrastructure for residents.
“We thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work together to build a sustainable Windhoek,” the municipality said.
Water services will increase by 4%, affecting basic charges, consumption tariffs, prepaid water services, semi-purified water tariffs and various related services such as meter repairs, new connections, meter testing, special readings and artisan call-outs.
The increase will apply across different consumer categories, including domestic households, businesses, non-domestic consumers, communal water points, Brakwater consumers and EPZ enterprises.
Refuse and waste management services will also increase by 4%, with adjustments affecting domestic, business and industrial refuse removal, institutional waste services, specialised waste removal, waste disposal charges at the Kupferberg Waste Disposal Site and the monthly solid waste management charge.
Charges related to healthcare risk waste, including the treatment and transportation of medical waste, container replacement and non-compliance fees, will also be adjusted.
Sewerage services will similarly increase by 4%, affecting residential properties, flats, hostels, hospitals, schools, businesses and specialised services such as night soil removal, chemical toilet rentals and industrial effluent treatment.
The Fire Brigade Services Levy will increase by 3%, applying to residential and non-residential properties, informal settlements and special institutions such as places of worship and charitable organisations.
Property assessment rates will increase by 4%, with revised monthly and annual tariffs based on the on-site value and improvement value of residential and non-residential properties.
The new assessment rates will also include specific tariffs for residential properties in Brakwater and extended boundary areas.
