THE Namibian Defence Force (NDF) is receiving recruits for its 19th intake at the NDF Training Establishment at Osona Military Base near Okahandja, with 1 618 recruits expected to undergo military training.
Speaking at the training establishment, Commandant Brigadier General Thomas Ngotipeni Showa said recruits started reporting between 7 and 9 July and that the turnout had been encouraging.
“We are intending to train 1 618 recruits. So far, the movement and reporting have been really encouraging, but I am urging those who have not yet reported to make sure that they report on time. I am sure that in two weeks’ time, when this process is done, we are then going to kick-start the training,” he said.

Showa said recruits from all 14 regions had begun reporting, although arrivals from the Hardap and Zambezi regions had been slower due to the distance.
“I should tell you that recruits from all 14 regions have reported, although regions like Hardap and Zambezi are moving at a slower pace. Hopefully, they will all report so that we will be able to kick-start the training,” he said.
Several recruits said joining the NDF had long been a personal ambition and that they looked forward to the discipline and challenges of military life.
One recruit said the opportunity would allow them to step outside their comfort zone, build discipline and make lifelong friendships.
Another recruit from the Hardap Region said joining the NDF had always been a dream.
“I expect nothing less than hard training, excellence and to be pushed to greatness,” the recruit said.
A recruit from the Ohangwena Region said the motivation for joining was to serve and protect Namibia.
“I expect to become a better soldier,” the recruit said.
Another recruit from the Zambezi Region said the training would prepare them to serve the country with discipline.
“I joined the army because I want to protect and fight for my country and make sure that I comply with every order I am given. I expect the training to groom me to become a better and more responsible person,” the recruit said.
The reporting process is expected to conclude before formal training begins at Osona Military Base.
