Reported crime in the Zambezi Region decreased by 13.9% over the past year, going from 4,095 cases in 2025 to 3,526 cases in 2026.
Zambezi Regional Governor Dorothy Kabula-Simushi revealed this during the recent State of the Region Address (SORA), where she reflected on the region’s achievements and challenges over the past year.
Despite the overall reduction in crime, Kabula-Simushi said several offences continue to pose a serious challenge in the region.
“Crimes such as stock theft, housebreaking and robbery, rape, poaching, assault, dealing in prohibited substances, reckless and negligent driving, domestic violence, and the smuggling of goods through ungazetted points are among the top ten most prevalent crimes in the region and demand serious attention from the security cluster,” the governor said.
Kabula-Simushi identified stock theft as one of the region’s most pressing concerns, noting that 184 cases were recorded during the period under review, resulting in cattle losses valued at approximately N$3 million.
“Law enforcement agencies, through cross-border cooperation, managed to recover 299 cattle valued at more than N$1 million. It is unfortunate to report that 336 cattle worth more than N$2 million were not recovered. I therefore urge the new Regional Police Commander to work closely with other security forces to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” she said.
