INTERNATIONAL cooperation in nuclear education and training was reinforced at the Obninsk NEW’26 Forum in Russia, with agreements signed to expand engineering education and strengthen global capacity-building initiatives, including growing engagement with Namibia.
The forum, supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), emphasised the need to train a new generation of nuclear specialists as global nuclear capacity is projected to triple by 2050. Organisers highlighted the importance of international education systems and partnerships to meet rising demand for skilled professionals.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said the Obninsk Tech international education cluster is being developed to expand global nuclear training capacity, with the aim of educating thousands of specialists and increasing access for international students.
On the sidelines of the forum, agreements were signed in the presence of Russian government and regional officials to support the international expansion of Russian nuclear engineering education and further develop Obninsk Tech.
The forum also underscored strengthening relations between Russia and Namibia, with officials noting increasing cooperation in nuclear-related skills development. The participation of a Namibian contest winner was cited as part of broader efforts to invest in human capital for future energy systems.
