THE Okapuka village in the Oshikunde Constituency of the Ohangwena Region has a new kindergarten, thanks to a generous donation from Namib/Uib Fishing.

Former Namibian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Major-General (Rtd) Vilho Nghifindaka, is the brain behind the project.

The school is named after his late father, Johannes Kaukuwa Nghifindaka. It supports early childhood education and contributes to the social development of children in Okapuka village and surrounding communities.

Oshikunde Constituency Councillor Willem Shatimwene officiated at the opening ceremony, where retired Police Commissioner Bollen Sankwasa, chairperson of the Namib/Uib Fishing Board of Directors, handed the kindergarten over to the community.

“It is our sincere hope that this facility will be carefully maintained and utilised as a centre of learning, growth and opportunity for children, and that it will serve as a lasting symbol of community development and educational empowerment,” said Sankwasa.

The company provided N$500,000 for the construction of a classroom, a kitchen and ablution facilities.

Okapuka Village Headman Moses Hedimbi accepted the donation on behalf of the community.
