WIDESPREAD frost, rain and hail have affected the Hardap and //Kharas regions in recent days, becoming more intense as the week has progressed. Predictions indicate that these conditions are likely to persist on Friday.
According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, strong winds and heavy thundershowers are expected across the southern parts of the country on Friday, raising the possibility of flash flooding in some areas. The public, particularly road users, is therefore advised to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions.
Many southern areas have already been experiencing frosty, windy weather accompanied by rainfall of varying intensities in recent days. Several places in the //Kharas Region recorded notable rainfall between Wednesday and Thursday morning, including Keetmanshoop (24 mm), Oranjemund (13 mm), Rosh-Pinah (13 mm), Lüderitz (8 mm), Koes (14 mm), Bremen (14 mm) and Karub (10 mm).
The Namibia Meteorological Services has predicted that these rain showers will likely also spread to the central and eastern parts of the country on Friday. Some eastern areas, such as Gobabis in the Omaheke Region, have already seen light showers on Thursday. These conditions are likely to intensify.
