THE Landless People’s Movement (LPM) has warned against what it termed “SWAPO infiltration tactics” after a meeting it convened in Keetmanshoop over the past weekend ended in chaos and a disgruntled crowd.
The party, after the unsuccessful meeting, claimed that the meeting ended prematurely after being disrupted by suspended Keetmanshoop councillor Joseph Isaacks.
During a press briefing held on Monday, 15 June 2026, LPM Member of Parliament Dawid Eigub said that LPM categorically states that it will not be affected by SWAPO infiltrators.
“What we’ve seen transpired on Saturday is a small group of people with no following that wishes to destabilise the development of LPM,” Eigub said, stressing that the party is poised to rise beyond infiltration tactics of SWAPO.
The party said that the Saturday event was an action that wanted to paint a certain picture of the movement, but that it has had many more positive moments despite this.
The suspended councillor, Joseph Isaacks, however, hit back at the claims and, in a social media post, said that he had been invited to the meeting.
“Let me use my FB page to correct the insinuations and implications levelled against me. LPM national spokesperson told the media that Joseph Isaacks, a suspended member of the party, disrupted the meeting of 13/06/2026 at V. K. Rover held by LPM. That statement is devoid of all truth. I just attended the impugned meeting as Dawid Eigub invited all members of LPM. But in the meeting, Namibian police were called by the de facto leadership of LPM and told and instructed to cause that the suspended members must leave the meeting or be arrested as they and other youth members disrupted the meeting process. I immediately told officers in uniform that we are in the LPM meeting and that we are LPM members invited by Dawid Eigub, and they can arrest us in the meeting of our party if they find our expressions and actions criminally wrong. Our aim and objective was just to know from the high table the grounds and reasons for recalling and removing the Khomas Municipality mayor from the council. The high table did not advance any reason and thereafter, the meeting was adjourned,” Isaacks said.
He added that the principle of natural justice (audi alteram partem), the right to be heard, and nemo judex in causa sua (the rule against bias) have been blatantly violated and disregarded by the LPM party leadership, which professes and advocates to restore the dignity of the people.
“Some people claim that I took internal matters of the party to the public domain but forget that my name is tarnished in the public arena and I have the right to clear the damage or confusion attached to my reputation and credibility. Lastly, for the past six years I used all the avenues, platforms and structures of the party to address and redress issues that were incompatible with the constitution of the party, but political power within the party precluded my efforts. Some of us are now labelled as anarchistic, that we want to take over the executive authority in the party, or are paid by SWAPO or other political formations and are misleading members; that narrative does not hold any water. It must be clear that those stories are baseless and must be treated with the contempt they deserve. We are LPM and we will continue to hold executive functionaries accountable in the exercise of their mandate,” Isaacks said.
Party members during the press conference said that they still intend to hold a meeting next week on the vacancy created in the Keetmanshoop municipality after the suspension of the Keetmanshoop mayor, Melody Swartbooi, and will inform the media in due course.
