Kuugongelwa-Amadhila praises Beyond Barriers Centre, calls for stronger inclusive care and community support

SPEAKER of the National Assembly Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has commended the work of the Beyond Barriers Pediatric Centre in Swakopmund, describing it as a vital example of community-driven care for children with developmental and special needs, while calling on Namibians to strengthen inclusive healthcare support and collective responsibility.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila made the remarks during a visit to the facility, where she engaged staff members and stakeholders, praising their commitment and sacrifice in supporting vulnerable children and families.

She said the centre reflects the importance of community initiative in complementing government efforts, noting that such projects demonstrate how individuals and organisations can contribute meaningfully to addressing social and healthcare challenges.

The Speaker highlighted that no Namibian should feel isolated in the face of hardship, adding that initiatives like the centre provide practical proof that communities can come together to support those in need.

She further stressed the importance of inclusivity and compassion, saying citizens should embody national values through actions that uplift others, rather than relying solely on government intervention.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila encouraged families of children with special needs to continue seeking support, assuring them that they are valued members of society and not defined by their circumstances.

She also called on private individuals, corporate entities, and development partners to support such initiatives consistently, rather than through one-off contributions, in order to ensure sustainability.

The Speaker added that Parliament, as a representative institution, would continue to engage on how such initiatives are supported within national development and budgeting frameworks.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila concluded by commending the centre’s staff for their dedication, resilience and compassion, pledging continued advocacy for greater awareness and support for inclusive care services across the country.
