UPDATE: Eight of the initial nine minor boys who are accused of gang-raping a 25-year-old woman in the small town of Okahandja were remanded in custody and sent back to juvenile cells after appearing in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court. Details of the case cannot be reported on due to the proceedings being held in camera as the accused are minors. The matter was postponed to 25 June 2026 for a formal bail application. The remaining eight accused underage boys, between the ages of 15 and 17, whose identities cannot by law be revealed, but they still stand accused of gang-raping a 25-year-old woman at knifepoint past midnight on Sunday, 7 June 2026, while she had been walking home through the area. Fears have since emerged of vigilante justice in Namibia, with an uncensored image of the rape-accused in the charge office circulating on social media, sparking national outrage.
