A SERIES of housebreaking and robbery incidents reported across Namibia over the weekend has left several victims counting losses, with police making arrests in some cases while investigations continue into others.
According to the weekend crime report, police are investigating a robbery at a residence in Academia, Windhoek, where five suspects allegedly broke into a house occupied by an elderly couple. The incident occurred at around 09:10 on Friday at a property. It is alleged that the suspects cut through an electric fence before entering the house and holding the pensioners hostage.
According to police, the victims were tied up with shoelaces and threatened with knives while the suspects stole firearms, ammunition, electronic devices and cash. No arrests have been made and none of the stolen items have been recovered.
Another break-in was reported at Atuhe Complex in Onandjaba between the evening of Thursday, 28 May, and the morning of Friday, 29 May. According to police, suspects used a wooden ladder to gain access to the roof of a shop, cut a hole through the roof and entered the premises, where several mobile devices were stolen. No arrests have been made and none of the stolen items have been recovered.
Meanwhile, in Swakopmund, a 23-year-old Namibian man was arrested after an alleged break-in at an auto repair shop during the early hours of Friday. According to police, the suspect allegedly broke into the business premises at around 00:30 and stole household appliances, machinery and a computer. All the stolen items have since been recovered, and the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue.
In a separate incident in the DRC area of Swakopmund, a Namibian man was arrested following an alleged housebreaking at a residence at around 02:00 on Friday. Police said the suspect allegedly stole clothing, food items and two bed base sets. The stolen property has been recovered, and the suspect remains in custody pending further investigations.
In the Kavango East Region, police are investigating a housebreaking at a residence in Tutungeni location, Rundu. The incident reportedly occurred at around 02:00 on Friday when suspects allegedly broke a window and metal burglar bars to gain entry into the house. Electronics and other personal belongings were stolen. No arrests or recoveries have been made.
In the Zambezi Region, a burglary was reported at Yuru Primary School in Ndama. Police said suspects allegedly entered a classroom and stole cash, a safe box and other personal belongings. No arrests have been made and investigations continue.
Police investigations into all the incidents are ongoing.
