THREE suspects were remanded in custody after appearing in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on charges of copper cable theft in Dorado Valley, following their arrest by the Windhoek City Police Service.
The suspects, Matheus Hipukuvala (28), Samuel Angula (28) and Lamek Shilunga (36), were apprehended in the riverbed along the Western Bypass where the alleged theft took place, after being caught digging up and cutting copper cables.

The trio made their first court appearance where bail was denied. They were remanded in custody, with the matter postponed to 13 July 2026.
The stolen cables have since been recovered, while investigations into the incident continue.
Authorities have warned that tampering with public infrastructure is a criminal offence that causes serious disruption to essential telecommunication services.
