Public resource mismanagement is ‘a cancer’, says ACC

Staff Reporter

THE mismanagement of public resources is “a cancer that eats away at the moral fabric of society,” said Erna van der Merwe, Deputy Director-General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Delivering a speech on behalf of ACC Director-General Paulus Noa at a consultative workshop held in Outapi, Omusati Region, on Thursday, Van der Merwe warned that those entrusted with public funds and assets must avoid the temptation to abuse their positions for personal gain.

The workshop aimed to gather input from stakeholders for the development of the 3rd National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan for 2026–2030.

Omusati Regional Governor Immanuel Shikongo delivered the keynote address. He urged stakeholders to participate meaningfully by presenting their perspectives and experiences.

He said participants’ recommendations are vital in crafting a strategy that reflects community needs and realities on the ground.

The consultations are being conducted alongside the development of the National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Policy.
