WHILE rainfall during the Easter weekend affected multiple regions, the southern parts of the country experienced some of the heaviest downpours, with several places recording between 30mm and 50mm of rain in a single day.

Hoachanas, in the Hardap Region, was among the most affected areas, recording around 50mm of rain between Monday and Tuesday morning. This was not the only southern area to see notable rainfall during this period. Sonop, near Stampriet, also received substantial showers, recording about 30mm of rain between Monday and Tuesday morning.

Other areas in the south were not left out either. Virungu and Victory, in the Hardap Region, recorded 38mm and 20mm of rain, respectively, between Sunday and Monday morning. Meanwhile, //Kharas Region’s Gocharus recorded 46mm of rain during the same period. Vaalpan, near Koes, also received significant showers, recording 40mm of rain between Sunday and Monday morning.

The recent showers in the south left a notable impact, flooding several roads and disrupting traffic in various areas. Southern rivers have also been revived due to the recent rainfall, with the Tsauchab River even reaching the Sossusvlei area.

While the south was among the heaviest affected, other areas also saw notable showers over the past few days. This includes, but is not limited to, Windhoek and Elisenheim in the Khomas Region, Okahandja in the Otjozondjupa Region, as well as Arandis and Usakos in the Erongo Region.

According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, more showers are expected in the extreme central-north, as well as the Hardap and //Kharas regions on Wednesday.
