A GERMAN national identified as Carmen Spetzinger succumbed to her injuries after a small aircraft went down in the Aus area.

According to Deputy Commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, the incident happened on Sunday, 29 March 2026 at around 11:00, 29 km from Aus to Goageb next to the B4 tarred road.

“It is alleged that an aeroplane was flying at a low altitude when it got entangled in electrical cable lines along the tarred road, which resulted in the aircraft accident. There were two occupants on board, and they were transported to Aus Clinic by state ambulance,” Mbango said.

He added that the female passenger succumbed to her injuries at Aus Clinic.

The pilot sustained serious injuries and was transported by MRA (Medical Rescue Africa) from Aus Clinic to Lüderitz, where he was airlifted to Windhoek and is currently admitted at Lady Pohamba Private Hospital in a stable condition.

The plane is said to have been flown by retired commercial pilot Dr Saneke Bernhard, a German national with permanent residence in Namibia. He is said to have over 30 years of flying experience.

Next of kin has been informed.

The wreckage of the aircraft, a two-seat, single-engine plane, was secured by the police, and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation team has been informed. The cause of the accident has not yet been established.

Investigations continue.
