Namibia celebrates Independence, Vice President Witbooi’s birthday

Staff Reporter

NAMIBIA marked its 36th Independence Day today while also celebrating the 64th birthday of Vice President Lucia Witbooi, with tributes highlighting her leadership, service, and contribution to national development.

Witbooi, who was born on 21 March 1962 in Gibeon in the Hardap Region, is Namibia’s second female Vice President and has been recognised for her longstanding commitment to public service and nation-building.

She is praised for her role in the country’s liberation struggle, as well as her continued efforts in advancing development and promoting social inclusion after independence.

The Vice President has also been acknowledged for her advocacy for women’s empowerment and her focus on uplifting vulnerable and marginalised communities, ensuring broader participation in Namibia’s economic and social life.

Her leadership style, described as grounded in humility, compassion, and a strong sense of duty, continues to inspire many, particularly young Namibians and women aspiring to leadership roles.

The dual celebration of Independence Day and Witbooi’s birthday served as a moment of national reflection on both Namibia’s progress since independence and the contributions of leaders shaping its future.
