Police urge safety ahead of Independence Day, Easter, and May holidays

Staff Reporter

THE Namibian Police Force has issued a public safety message urging residents and visitors to prioritise safety and responsibility during the upcoming national holidays, which include Independence Day on 21 March 2026, Easter from 3–6 April, and the school holiday period throughout May.

Inspector General Lt Gen Joseph Shikongo reminded the public that these periods of celebration often see increased traffic and social activities, calling on all road users to exercise tolerance, drive responsibly, adhere to traffic regulations, avoid speeding and alcohol-impaired driving, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy.

“On behalf of the entire management, the Rank-and-File and the Civilian Component of the Namibian Police Force, and indeed on my own behalf, we wish all citizens and visitors a crime-free, safe, and peaceful 36th Independence Day celebration,” he said.

Lt Gen Shikongo said the Police Force will intensify operations nationwide to maintain law and order, with officers visible on roads and in communities. The public is further encouraged to safeguard property, participate in neighbourhood crime prevention initiatives, and supervise children closely to prevent risky behaviours that may lead to accidents or criminal activity.
