A NEW black rhino calf has been born at the Gondwana ERP Black Rhino Sanctuary in southern Namibia, marking a significant milestone for ongoing conservation efforts aimed at protecting the endangered species.
The calf, born to one of the sanctuary’s resident females, has already been spotted exploring its surroundings alongside its mother, indicating that the pair is settling well into their environment.
Gondwana Collection Namibia says the birth highlights the positive impact of initiatives such as de-fencing, rewilding and species reintroduction, which are helping to restore natural habitats and support wildlife populations.
The development is seen as a hopeful sign for the future of the black rhinoceros, as efforts continue to ensure the species not only survives but thrives in protected areas such as Gondwana Canyon Park.
