NAMIBIA will celebrate its 36th Independence Day on Saturday, 21 March 2026, with events taking place across all 14 regions, as leaders call on citizens to unite in commemorating the country’s journey of freedom, resilience and development. The celebrations will be held under the theme “Beyond 35: For a Prosperous Future.”
In the Erongo Region, celebrations will be held at Usab Stadium in Karibib from 09:00, with authorities encouraging residents to attend in large numbers. Transport will be provided from various constituencies, with residents required to register at designated offices to secure travel arrangements.
In the Hardap Region, festivities will take place at the Mariental Sports Grounds, with Information and Communication Technology Minister Emma Theofelus set to deliver the keynote address. Celebrations will be preceded by a music show on 20 March, where the President’s Independence message will be streamed.
The Kavango East Region will host its main event at Rundu Sports Stadium from 07:00, where Regional Governor Hamunyera Hambyuka will deliver the keynote address. Residents have been invited to attend, with entertainment and food also planned.
In the Kavango West Region, residents will gather at the Nkurenkuru Sports Complex for the celebrations, with Regional Governor Verna Sinimbo calling on the public to attend in large numbers.
The Khomas Region will host its main celebrations at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, starting at 09:00, with festivities preceded by a pre-independence festival at Zoo Park on 20 March. The event will be hosted by Governor Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, and Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister Frans Kapofi is expected to deliver the keynote address.
In the Kunene Region, where celebrations will take place at the Khorixas Sports Fields from 09:00. Environment, Forestry and Tourism Minister Indileni Daniel will deliver the keynote address.
The Ohangwena Region will host its event at Oshikango, with Regional Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa expected to welcome keynote speaker Sankwasa James Sankwasa.
In the Omaheke Region, celebrations will be held at Legare Stadium, with Regional Governor Pijoo Nganate inviting residents and visitors to attend. A music concert is also planned for the evening.
The Omusati Region will host its celebrations at the Ehao Cultural Expo Centre in Okahao from 09:00, where Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah is expected to deliver the keynote address.
In the Oshana Region, residents have been invited to gather at Oshakati Independence Stadium for the regional celebrations, hosted by Governor Hofni Alugodhi Iipinge.
The Oshikoto Region will host decentralised celebrations across its constituencies, with various national and regional leaders expected to officiate at different venues, including Tsumeb, Onyaanya, Okankolo and Omuntele.
Celebrations in the Onyaanya Constituency will take place at Simbobela Centre at 10:00, where Member of Parliament Willem Amutenya will deliver the keynote address. In the Guinas Constituency, residents will gather at the constituency office in Tsintsabis, with National Council Chairperson Lukas Sinimbo Muha as the keynote speaker.
In the Okankolo Constituency, the event will be held at Ohaimbanda Primary School, where former Ohangwena Governor Usko Nghaamwa is expected to address attendees. The Nehale Mpingana Constituency will host its celebrations at Ekonghola Primary School, with Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture Dino Ballotti as keynote speaker.
Residents of the Onamishu Eengodi Constituency will convene at the constituency office, where Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Modestus Amutse will deliver the keynote address, while in the Omuntele Constituency, the event will take place at Enzile Centre, with Justice and Labour Relations Minister Fillemon Wise Immanuel as speaker.
In the Olukonda Constituency, celebrations will be held at Shanamutango Primary School’s Amunime Centre, with Oshikoto Governor Sacky Kathindi addressing the gathering.
The main event in the Tsumeb Constituency will take place at Oscar Norich Stadium, where Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi will deliver the keynote address. Free transport will be provided for residents from surrounding farms, including Huigub, Ludwingshaven and Lake Otjikoto.
In the Oniipa Constituency, celebrations will be held at Onalulago Centre, with former Oshikoto Governor Penda Ya Ndakolo expected to address attendees.
In the Otjozondjupa Region, the main event will take place at Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo, with former National Assembly Speaker Peter Katjavivi expected to deliver the keynote address.
The Zambezi Region will host its celebrations in Bukalo, where Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Charles Mubita will deliver the keynote address. Governor Dorothy Kabula has called on residents to attend and celebrate in unity.
In the ǁKharas Region, celebrations will be held in Karasburg, where the Vice President, Lucia Witbooi, will be in attendance. Regional Governor Dawid Gertze is urging residents to participate in the historic event. Transport arrangements have been made for attendees travelling from various towns, including Windhoek and Keetmanshoop.
