THE Namibian Navy secured first place at the recently concluded Southern African Development Community (SADC) Naval Pentathlon Games, with the South African Navy finishing second and the Tanzanian Navy taking third place.
The competition took place in Walvis Bay over three days and brought together naval personnel from Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania to compete in various sporting disciplines aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and camaraderie among SADC navies.

The closing ceremony, held at the Sea Side Hotel and Spa in Swakopmund, was presided over by Namibian Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Sacheus Randy !Gonteb, and attended by naval representatives, athletes and invited guests from across the region.
Addressing the participants, !Gonteb commended the athletes for their dedication, resilience and sportsmanship, saying their commitment represented the true victory of the games.
He added that the Naval Pentathlon is not only a test of physical ability but also demonstrates the resilience, courage and professionalism that define sailors and marines.
In the Obstacle Relay event, the Namibian Navy won gold, followed by South Africa with silver and Tanzania with bronze.
In the individual female category, Able Seaman E.V. Sindano won the gold medal, while Able Seaman A.S. Shiyambi and Lieutenant (Junior Grade) M. Maan secured silver and bronze respectively.
In the individual male category, Able Seaman J.T. Ndjeke won gold, while Leading Seaman G.K. Müller and Able Seaman Mombura took silver and bronze respectively. Able Seaman E.K. Linus received the Fair Play Award.
