Police investigate multiple robbery incidents

POLICE are investigating several robbery cases reported over the weekend in Windhoek and other towns, including incidents in Okahao and Rehoboth, where victims were threatened with firearms, knives and pangas while suspects stole cash, cellphones and a vehicle.

According to the police weekend crime report, a 19-year-old man was robbed at gun and knife point on Friday morning in Cimbebacia, Windhoek. The victim was on his way to work when three suspects armed with a pistol, knife and plank approached him and stole his cellphone and backpack. No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

In a separate incident at Okahao around 19:00 the same day, a suspect reportedly grabbed a woman by both arms and forcefully took her cellphone. The suspect fled and no arrests have been made.

At around 20:00 on Friday, under the Lafrenz bridge in Katutura, two suspects reportedly stopped a taxi driver, pointed a firearm at him and robbed him of N$1 800 in cash before fleeing with his white Mazda Demio. The vehicle was later recovered, but no arrests have been made.

In Rehoboth, suspects allegedly forced their way into a house at around 23:45 on Friday by kicking open the door. The complainant was threatened with a panga and robbed of N$400, a cellphone and a pair of sneakers.

Another robbery occurred in the early hours of Saturday at about 02:30 in Windhoek West, where suspects allegedly threatened a man and his family with firearms and knives before stealing a cellphone.

Police also reported a robbery on Saturday at the traffic lights at Bent Karlsson Street and Hendrik Witbooi Road in Pioneerspark Extension 1. Four suspects allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm, pangas and a knife before taking his cellphone, cash and a cap.

In another robbery with aggravating circumstances reported on Saturday morning behind Prosperita in Windhoek, four suspects allegedly pointed a firearm at a man, assaulted him and hacked him with a panga while he was disposing of refuse in nearby bushes. The suspects reportedly stole his belongings before fleeing.

Police investigations into the incidents continue.
