PARENTS and guardians of children under the age of ten are strongly encouraged to take their children for polio vaccination before the five-day Second Round of the National Polio Vaccination Campaign, which is currently underway countrywide, closes later today.
The Ministry of Health and Social Services said that the week-long campaign is meant to ensure that every child in Namibia is fully protected.
Parents and guardians are urged to play their part in protecting children and keeping communities safe from polio, a highly infectious and incurable disease caused by the poliovirus, which can cause irreversible paralysis or even death.
It spreads through person-to-person contact.
Although anyone who is unvaccinated is at risk, polio primarily affects unvaccinated children.
