INSPECTOR General of the Namibian Police, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, on Friday led an evening patrol in Katima Mulilo as part of a coordinated security operation aimed at strengthening national safety and immigration control in the Zambezi Region.
Shikongo headed members of the Zambezi Security Cluster during the operation, which targeted identified crime hotspots, including licensed bar establishments. The enforcement efforts focused on ensuring compliance with operating conditions and maintaining public order.
Authorities stressed that adherence to licensing regulations and responsible alcohol consumption play a direct role in promoting community stability and reducing security risks.

Earlier that day, the Inspector General addressed a multi-agency briefing, where he underscored the importance of integrated security and immigration operations in safeguarding the country and enhancing border management. He urged officers to maintain visible policing and proactive enforcement, adding that patrol effectiveness should not be hampered by vehicle shortages where areas can be covered on foot.
The operation brought together officials from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, the Women and Men Network Zambezi, the Namibian Correctional Service, the Namibia Revenue Agency and Customs, as well as Immigration authorities. Immigration and Border Control activities were led by Deputy Director for the Zambezi Region, Daisy Musweu, highlighting a unified approach to managing cross-border movement and enforcing immigration regulations.
Shikongo reaffirmed that sustained collaboration among stakeholders remains critical to protecting national interests, strengthening border integrity and ensuring the safety of communities.
