THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has announced the arrest of Michael Nehemia and Fransiskus Ndatoolewe Sheehama of the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) over alleged corrupt practices.
According to ACC spokesperson Marina Matundu, the duo were involved in a corrupt scheme between November 2019 and February 2020, which resulted in a financial loss of approximately N$179,508.91 to the NDF.
The corruption allegedly involved fraudulent payments made to Lifeline Body Workshop and Car Sales for vehicle repairs and services that were never carried out. The scheme also included inflated quotations that were designed to generate personal financial gain.
Michael Nehemia has appeared before the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court, where he was granted bail of N$10,000. Fransiskus Sheehama’s court appearance is still pending. Both suspects have been charged under the Anti-Corruption Act with corruption, specifically for using their positions for gratification, with fraud listed as an alternative charge. In addition, three other suspects linked to the case are yet to be apprehended.
The ACC reiterated its commitment to upholding integrity and accountability within public institutions, stating that corruption undermines good governance and service delivery.
The Commission emphasised that it remains resolute in investigating all corrupt activities to ensure those responsible are held accountable under the law.
