RESCUED: The people who were swept away by strong river currents near Mariental have been rescued. This follows heavy rainfall in the south over the weekend, which intensified river flows and caused flooding in some areas. The rescue operation was carried out by the Namibian Police (Nampol), State Emergency personnel and the Mayor of Mariental. Those trapped by the rising waters were safely evacuated by boat. Further heavy showers are expected in the south today, which could lead to additional flooding. Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and avoid crossing rivers or entering flooded areas. Photo: Sean Naude
