THREE male suspects aged 24, 28 and 36 have been arrested in connection with an incident of theft out of a motor vehicle that occurred at Shoprite’s receiving area in Oluno, Ondangwa, early Sunday morning.
It is alleged that a truck driver of Crystal Gold Caterserve parked the truck at the receiving area at around 22:00 on Saturday to await offloading the next morning. He fell asleep but at around 04:00 was awakened by the driver of another truck, informing him that his truck’s covering tarp had been cut.
Shoe prints were observed at the scene and the driver, with the assistance of a security guard who was on duty nearby, traced the tracks to a certain shack in the Onguta location, whereafter the police were summoned.
“The police officers arrived, entered the shack and found the stolen items inside,” said the police in the crime report.
Five suspects were found inside the shack. Three were arrested on the spot, but two managed to escape.
The recovered items include four boxes of Nutrific wholewheat biscuits; 20 two-litre bottles of cooking oil; fourteen 10kg bags of Quality Select rice; and four five-litre bottles of Mangalie Tropical Punch juice, with a total value of N$5,750.54.
