TOIVO Potgieter Simeon “Kapoti”, a resident of Ongwediva who was arrested for criminal defamation and eventually granted bail of N$2,000 last year, risks having his bail revoked after he apparently violated one of its conditions.
When the court postponed the case to 26 February, Kapoti was granted bail on the condition that he desist from making any further social media claims about northern businessman Benjamin Hauwanga (BH).
However, on Monday, Kapoti circulated an audio clip on social media platforms, not only mentioning BH’s name but also implicating him in the alleged death in Angola of a certain Vilho Kapunda from Ohakweenyanga village, who — as it turns out — is alive and well.
“Yes, I am Vilho Kapunda from Ohakweenyanga village. I am currently in Swakopmund and not dead as claimed by Kapoti. I was never employed by BH and was never in Angola. In fact, I know BH by name only,” said Kapunda in an interview with Informante.
Approached for comment, BH expressed shock.
“I am shocked by the latest malicious allegations he [Kapoti] is levelling against me. I am, however, satisfied that the allegedly dead man refuted the claims himself,” he said, adding that the matter is being dealt with appropriately.
