POLICE in the Omusati and Oshikoto regions are investigating a series of bar break-ins over the weekend that led to arrests in Tsandi and a major cash and equipment theft in Onethindi, where suspects remain at large.
In Tsandi, two Namibian men aged 19 and 20 were arrested in connection with a housebreaking and theft incident that occurred on Friday, at around 04:00 at two bars at the Ondjola Business Point in Iitananga Village, Tsandi Constituency. According to the weekend crime report, the suspects allegedly used a bolt cutter to break the padlocks on the shebeen doors, gained entry and stole various items without the owners’ consent. Some of the stolen property from both bars was recovered. The suspects are expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, in the Oshikoto Region, police are searching for suspects following a housebreaking and theft at a bar in Onethindi Location in the early hours of Saturday, at about 05:30. It is alleged that unknown suspects cut through the roof of the bar using an unknown object to gain entry. They then forced open two jackpot machines and stole N$14 745 in cash.
The suspects also broke the entrance door and removed one jackpot machine valued at N$111 415, before fleeing the scene using a motor vehicle. At the time of reporting, no arrests had been made and none of the stolen property had been recovered.
Police investigations into both incidents are continuing.
