POLICE arrested several suspects across Namibia over the weekend in a series of drug-related operations that led to the recovery of cannabis, cocaine, Mandrax tablets and large sums of cash in areas including Kamanjab, Okahao, Katutura, Swakopmund, Tsumkwe, the Trans-Kalahari and Uis.
According to the weekend crime report, on Friday in Kamanjab, three Namibian men aged 26, 28 and 43 were arrested at the Kamanjab–Outjo road, about eight kilometres from Kamanjab. Police stopped and searched a freight Iveco truck with Windhoek registration and found two parcels of suspected cannabis concealed in a white box under the passenger seat. The suspects, including the driver and alleged owner of the drugs, face charges of dealing in and possession of dependence-producing substances.
In Okahao, Omusati Region, a 51-year-old Namibian man was arrested at around 07:00 at Etunda village along the Okahao–Oshakati main road (C41). Police found him in possession of two packs of cannabis “skunk” weighing 2 108 grams, as well as N$46 043 in cash, for which he could not provide a satisfactory explanation. The combined value of the drugs and cash was estimated at N$110 043. He is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
A 38-year-old man was arrested in Katutura at about 11:00 in Damara Location, after police found 30 grams of cocaine valued at N$15 000 in his room. Earlier the same day, at around 12:30, a 20-year-old man was arrested for possession of 35 grams of cannabis “skunk” valued at N$1 750.
In Swakopmund’s DRC (Wagdaar) location, a 30-year-old man was arrested at about 14:12 after being found in possession of cannabis “skunk”, majad cannabis and Mandrax tablets valued at N$560.
On Saturday in the Mangetti area of Tsumkwe, a Namibian man of unknown age was arrested at around 01:00 at Perspeka village after being found with a medium parcel of cannabis “skunk” valued at N$1 900.
Along the Trans-Kalahari in the Gobabis District, a 24-year-old woman was arrested on at about 16:00 at Vergenoeg after police found 254 sachets of cannabis valued at N$22 750 in her shack.
In Uis, Erongo Region, police arrested two men aged 21 and 23 and a 17-year-old female at around 20:00 in Ehafo Location for dealing in drugs. The operation led to the recovery of two plastic bags and 75 bankies of cannabis “skunk”, 26 quarters of Mandrax tablets and N$9 735.80 in cash.
Police investigations into all the cases are continuing.
