Two minor boys injured after jumping from moving truck

Staff Reporter

TWO minor boys, aged seven and eight years, jumped off a moving truck in Henties Bay and were subsequently injured.

According to Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, the accident happened on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, at about 14:40 at Oshikoto Street, Omdel location, Henties Bay.

“It’s alleged that a truck, operated by a Namibian adult male, was driving through Oshikoto Street in Omdel location, Henties Bay, when two boys, aged eight and seven, jumped on it while it was moving without the driver’s knowledge,” Shomongula said.

She added that it is further alleged that after a short distance, the boys jumped off the moving truck. As a result, the eight-year-old sustained injuries, while the seven-year-old suffered bruises on one of his hips.

The eight-year-old victim was transported to Swakopmund State Hospital for medical attention. Both boys’ parents were located and informed.

Shomongula, in conclusion, warned parents and elders to caution children about the dangers of jumping onto moving vehicles, as this is not only a life-threatening act but can also lead to severe injuries.
