Soldier accused of murder remanded in custody, case postponed to June

Staff Reporter

ANDREAS Kanyanga, the 25-year-old member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) who was arrested this week and appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and defeating the course of justice, has been remanded in custody, and the case was postponed to 18 June.

Andreas was apprehended shortly after the mutilated body of Salom Nikanor, 41, was found floating in water near the Oluno Correctional Service facility on Monday.

It is alleged that Andreas and Nikanor are relatives and that the accused had allegedly taken a life assurance policy on the deceased.

An assurance payout is therefore alleged to be the motive behind the crime.
