THE Namibian police in the Hardap Region have not yet arrested an employee of a betting outlet in Aranos who is accused of defrauding his employer of more than N$60,000.
The alleged fraud occurred on Wednesday between 08:50 and 10:59 at the Oudrew Man Betshop.
It is alleged that the 28-year-old betting assistant misrepresented facts by pretending to have received money from customers to place bets on the Cash Crush platform.
He would then proceed to print betting receipts as if payment was received when, in reality, no money was paid by any customer. “Instead,” said the police, “the suspect placed bets for himself using the company’s credit without paying the required betting stakes.”
Each bet was placed with a stake of N$1,000.
The total amount involved is, according to the system records, N$62,749.57.
The money has not been recovered, and the suspect has not been arrested yet.
