TOIVO Potgieter Simeon ‘Kapoti’, the Ongwediva resident who was recently in the news following his arrest on a defamation of character charge, is back in the news, this time for spreading information deemed by the Namibian police as blatantly false.
Following his release on N$2,000 bail on 4 December, Kapoti circulated an image of a police vehicle accompanied by audio recordings alleging that the police vehicle was used to pull a private trailer for a private wedding and that illicit fuel from Angola, locally known as “Ngungula,” was utilised for that purpose.

NOT ABUSED: The police vehicle which Kapoti alleged was used for private purposes.
In response, the police clarified that the incident did neither occur in the Oshikango area nor was the vehicle used for a private function.
According to the police, the incident in question occurred on 17 May 2024 in the Fransfontein area, where police officers were responding to a reported stock theft case involving three donkeys. The animals were successfully recovered on 22 May 2024, and two suspects were arrested in connection with the case.
Said the police: “Subsequent arrangements were made to transport the recovered animals back to the complainant. As part of these operational arrangements, a Toyota Hilux (POL 9451) was dispatched from Khorixas Police Station, utilising the complainant’s private trailer (registration number N 8897 OT), to collect the animals from the Uis area. The animals were thereafter transported back to Fransfontein and duly handed over to the complainant. At no point was the police vehicle used for private purposes, nor was ‘Ngungula’ fuel used, as alleged. The actions taken were strictly in line with policing duties and operational requirements related to the investigation and recovery of stolen stock.”
